As a bride, the morning of your wedding can be chaotic at the best of times, but our helpful tips will ensure your wedding day gets started on a calm and relaxing start.
As a former bride-to-be, I know just how stressful the whole process of getting ready on the morning of your wedding can be. Click To TweetI’ve been there; there’s such a massive lead up to the big day, and before you know it you’ll be waking up on your wedding day excited and nervous. There are always people coming and going, plus a timeline to stick to; also with the combination of all your emotions about the day, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. So to help every bride prepare for your wedding morning, and make it as chilled out, relaxing, and fun as possible.
13 Tips For a Calm Wedding Morning
1. Have an Early Night
First things first, go to bed early the night before your wedding. With all the excitement and nerves are running high it may take you a little bit longer to drift off, so head of to bed a little bit earlier than usual to get a fantastic night’s sleep.
2. Lay Out your Dress and Accessories
Have your dress hanging up and all your shoes; don’t forget those pesky stickers on the base; and accessories, garter, and lingerie laid out, with the labels cut off all your new pretty things. If you are bringing a small clutch with essentials (lipstick, rescue remedy, mints), leave this ready to go too. You can do this for all your bridesmaids’ dresses and accessories too. The photographer can take those all important detailed shots without having to disturb you, and it also means everything is ready for you to slip into once your hair and makeup is done.
3. Practice Mindfulness
If you practice meditation, mindfulness or even yoga, allow time into your wedding morning timeline for some practice – this is helpful if you tend to feel anxious.
4. Don’t Forget to Eat
Although many brides say they feel too anxious or excited to eat in the morning, it is essential to have a hearty, healthy breakfast to get you through the day. Like a layered breakfast bowl with granola, natural yogurt and fresh fruit and a calming herbal tea will set you up nicely for the day.
Try to avoid stodgy and greasy foods as these can make you feel a little bloated and queasy if nerves are heightened.
5. Treat Yourself
Wedding Morning Timeline schedule for some pamper time, have a warm bath with oils (unless you have tan on!) and even flower petals if you wish. Light some candles, play some chilled music and take this moment to yourself to allow your mind to get ready for your big day ahead. Enjoy the here and now, rather than your mind racing about all the details of the day to come. Take time to apply an all-over body moisturizer and allow it to dry in.
6. Your Hair and Beauty Timeline
When you do your hair and make-up trials make sure to time them so you know how long they’ll take on the morning of. Double check how your hair and skin should be before they arrive; you may need to wash your hair the night before. Confirm with both your hair and make-up artists on the bridal party schedule and brief your bridal party so there’s no confusion about who goes first. Make sure you’ve tested any new beauty products before the big day to ensure there are no last minute reactions!
7. Pack Some Pretty Prep Attire
Slip into a silk or cotton robe or pretty bridal PJs for getting ready in – not only will you and your bridal party feel fabulous, you won’t be worried about having your picture taken in your usual scruffy pajamas!
8. Calming Scents
Have your favorite scent (Jasmine, Lavender, Classic Linen) as a room diffuser, natural oil or candle ready to go; a lovely aroma will fill the space. After your big day, that scent will always take you back to that morning – a bonus!
9. Hit Play on Some Sweet Sounds
Prepare a playlist of your favorite songs to listen to, for the morning of my wedding; I created a Youtube Playlist with sweet love songs that had meaning in our relationship. Don’t forget to pack a set of portable speakers in your wedding day bag if not getting ready at home.
10. Get the Celebrations Started
Pop some bubbly and have a toast with your bridal party! AVOID HAVING TOO MUCH!
11. No More Planning!
Make the final confirm timings with all your wedding day vendors and bridal party such as flower and cake delivery or hair and makeup artists arrival a few days before. If you’re are planning on making items, arranging flowers or doing some of your decors make sure to have everything ready to go and set up before your actual day. This means no more DIYs or actual wedding-prep the day off!
If you want to check the venue or the progress of set up, make sure it’s the first thing you do so it’s out of the way. Have all the cash for any of your wedding day vendors in envelopes ready to go and hand them over to a trusted bridal member.
12. A Calming Inner Circle
If you are an anxious person, try to only surround yourself with only the people you really want around yourself on the morning of your wedding. It could be your mum, your bridal party, or your grandmother. You may have vendors (hairstylists, make-up artists, videographer, photographer or wedding planner) in the room with you while getting ready so it’s essential to choose them carefully and make sure you have tremendous natural dynamic with them.
Place a note on the door and ask other visitors to be respectful of your time when getting ready. Nominate a trusted member of your wedding party or your wedding planner to direct questions and queries to (or hand over your phone to), to minimize last-minute panic to take any pressure away from you so that you can enjoy your wedding day in full.
13. Leave Extra Time
Make sure you have allowed for plenty of contingency time in your wedding day timeline. Things can happen and don’t want to feel rushed out the door it timings run over! RECOMMEND that you aim to be ready an hour before your ceremony begins. This means you can be relaxed and ready to go while allowing yourself time to enjoy being with your bridal party rather than feeling rushed at the last moment.
Schedule in extra time if you plan on doing a first look with your father, mother or soulmate, handing out bridal party girls or simply to have a glass of bubbly before you go! If you need to travel from your getting ready location to the ceremony or first look, make sure you leave in good time to allow for any traffic or issues along the way.
